Following lyrics controversy, Suga (BTS) continues to be criticized for choice of words

After apologizing for the controversy of using cult leader Jim Jones' speech into the lyrics, Suga (BTS) continued to be under fire for his statement about the Covid-19 pandemic.

Recently, when interacting with fans on V Live, Suga mentioned the Covid-19 pandemic while talking about "10 things to fill in" the new album's songs. Suga was able to do more music works than expected and said, "It is a fortune that Corona brought. 'Daechwita' is not 'because of Corona' but 'thanks to Corona'. I couldn't have filmed the MV if we were conducting the tour."

In the term of consistency, Suga's statement meant that the originally planned schedules were canceled and the new product was eventually changed. However, many netizens criticized Suga that his sayings like "This is the fortune that Corona brought to me" or "It's thanks to Corona" were not inappropriate as an artist with great influence as him.

Previously, Suga became the focus of public criticism after the press reported that he used the speech of Jim Jones - the leader of the cult Peoples Temple - to include in his song "What Do You Think?".

Big Hit Entertainment once explained about putting Jim Jones's speech into the lyrics, “During the composition, the producer of the song mentioned above did not know about the speaker and just chose the sample after considering its relevance to the atmosphere of the whole song."

The company then added, "Through internal processes to monitor diverse contents around the world, Big Hit always checks potentially controversial cultural, social and historical details. However, we still have a limit in understanding all the situations and having appropriate measures for those situations. In this case, we were not aware of everything beforehand and had drawbacks in grasping historical and social situations related to the incident."

Regarding the controversy over Suga using Jim Jones's speech in this product, Big Hit Entertainment apologized, "We would like to apologize to those who have suffered or felt disturbed because of this incident. After checking the issue, we immediately removed the aforementioned sample and replaced it with a new version. Suga himself is embarrassed and feels deeply responsible for the errors that he did not expect."

However, from 11 am (KST) June 1 until now, Suga has not yet taken any official stance on his statement regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
